COSEL Launches Rugged HVDC Converter for Harsh and Demanding Applications

The latest industrial applications demand power supplies with unparalleled flexibility to accommodate a wide range of applications. Renewable energy technology and data centers are adopting high-voltage DC architecture, requiring specific DC/DC converters. To meet this demand, power systems engineers developed a plan for DC/DC power solutions. This plan will simplify implementation and reduce time to market.

In response to that demand, COSEL designed a full-brick DC/DC converter delivering up to 1400W with unparalleled performance and features: the DCS1400B.

The unit accepts a wide input range from 200V to 435VDC (500VDC surge), making it perfect for high-voltage DC links, battery storage systems, and distributed power architectures. Its output voltage is fully adjustable from near 0V to 120%, and it features Constant Voltage Constant Current (CVCC) control, enabling seamless handling of complex loads such as laser equipment, RF amplifiers, radar systems, capacitor and battery charging circuits, and DC motors. The constant current threshold is fully adjustable. System integrators can adjust it from 0% to 100%, giving them maximum control flexibility.

The DCS1400B has an astonishing peak efficiency of over 96.9%, ensuring minimal power loss, unwavering reliability, and reduced thermal stress. This makes it perfect for environments with strict energy or space constraints.

Weighing in at just 230g and measuring 116.8 x 12.7 x 61.0 mm, the unit’s compact, thermally optimized housing allows for space-saving integration without sacrificing any performance. The converter is designed to perform in ambient conditions ranging from a chilly -40°C to +100°C baseplate. It remains stable and reliable, even in the most extreme conditions.

The DCS1400B incorporates a comprehensive suite of protection and control features. This product is equipped with overcurrent and overvoltage protections. Remote ON/OFF and power-good signaling make integration with supervisory systems a breeze. Remote sensing ensures accurate voltage at the point of load. This product has an optional built-in ORing MOSFET, which enables hot-swap and fault-tolerant operation. This makes it a reliable choice for demanding applications.

High-reliability and scalable systems are made possible by active current sharing, which allows up to 12 units to operate in parallel. This supports both capacity scaling and N+1 redundancy configurations. The DCS1400B is the perfect fit for mission-critical systems and modular platforms.

The DCS1400B series meets and exceeds international safety standards UL62368-1, EN62368-1 and C-UL (equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 62368-1), providing you with the peace of mind you need in critical environments.
